What kind of an omen is a flaming bagel?

Okay I wanted to start my day with one of those yummy Cinnamon Crunch bagels from Panera's. I had picked up a couple the other day. I placed it in the toaster and turned my back to find the cream cheese which other members of my family had shoved to the back of the top shelf behind the pickle relish, where I can hardly see it and have to jump up to reach, when my youngest son says "the toaster is on fire". Now, this child is known to be over dramatic and I replied (still not looking) oh that's just steam from my bagel. No, No it wasn't. There were flames shooting out of my toaster. (Not a picture of my actual toaster.)

So I unplugged it and removed the flaming half and doused it in water. Soggy, burnt sugar blech..... However I did salvage the bottom half - which has no yummy cinnamon sugar and ate that. Now I need a new toaster. Perhaps this one..

I do hope this isn't a sign of the Apocalypse since I'm caught up with my laundry and I'd hate to think I wasted my last hours on earth folding socks and underwear.

Hope your day does not include a flaming appliance.

  1. Oh goodness - you should have broiled it. That sugar will catch fire in a minute (ask me how I know - LOL)

  2. Oh crap! I'd be so upset, not about the toaster, but the bagel!

Glad it all worked out ok...and while you are out there getting that rad looking toaster (and yes, you need to get the one you showed us)...you might as well go ahead and get some fabric, too....

    Just sayin'

Hope you have a wonderful day! :)

  4. LOL....I have come close to this situation, and yes, you need one of those toaster ovens to do a sweet bagel, they work much better! Burnt sugar on a bagel is sad, isn't it???? I have a shop that sell a Maple Cinnamon Bagel, taste like French Toast....yum!

  6. So funny, but not really. I would hate to loose such a good bagel in a fire that way. Go buy a toaster oven and that will never happen again. And you can even bake a half dozen cookies in a toaster oven. Yumm on both counts. :)

  7. Hahaha! So funny about not doing laundry on your last day! Excellent choice for your next toaster. I've never had a flaming appliance. (I have to laugh - it's just too funny!) And I hope I never do.

  9. Oh, my! Too bad about your bagel and your toaster too! The new toaster with the flames would be a good way to remember your old toaster and it's last day. I've never had a flaming appliance....and I hope I don't today.......but my iron came close once when it actually melted! Good thing the toaster loss didn't slow down your sewing progress LOL!!
