What a difference a week makes

So last week I finished up this pair of almost day-glow socks and this week...

I'm working on the antithesis of that pair.... large dark taupe socks for my son. (Insert big sigh.)

Now I will say these are knitting up quickly. I'm using size 3 needles and the yarn is Knitpicks Stroll. The color is Basalt Heather. You can see it here. It feels nice and squishy and it is machine wash/tumble dry low. And I find happiness in that they aren't black. Taupe is a nice change of pace. I've ordered more of this yarn in Navy and Dark Gray. Those colors and the black encompass all of the colors of suits the boy owns so he should be looking good.

These aren't the most exciting socks to knit but my son really loves the way they fit and feel and that makes it all worthwhile. My reward for finishing these socks is to work on a pair for me. I have several single socks that are waiting for a mate and one of these will get lucky (ewww.... that didn't sound right - LOL).

Do you have plans for the upcoming 3 day weekend?  I'm hoping to get some sewing done and I want to work on organizing my stash of beads and jewelry making supplies. I bought a new storage box and hope to sort, organize and contain it.

Here's hoping you get to do fun things with your holiday!
Happy stitching-

  1. Oh the things we will do for our boys. I'd make them black socks too, if they would wear them.

No plans for the weekend - other than to celebrate my sweet hearts 50th birthday.

  2. I made some socks for my 28 year old some from that exact same yarn. I don't know if he has been wearing them or not. I did like the color but it was a little monotonous. Do your guys like the ribbed leg better than the stockinette? No big plans for the weekend except to play with my new machine.

  4. The top socks are definitely more fun, but I can see why your son prefers the plain darker colors ~ could you imagine the bright socks with his suits! Lol!

  5. I prefer day glow over taupe too, but you are a good mom! I'm hoping to find the right storage for my scraps and get them out of the cardboard boxes cluttering up my sewing room floor. Sigh.

  6. It is nice that you have a pattern that your son likes so much! I knit my son a pair of socks this week too but he is 9 so I am still safe to knit with colorful yarns! Cheers! Evelyn

  7. Love your day-glow socks! Thanks for sharing the yarn info on the gray socks, too. I'll have to check it out over at KnitPicks. Keep up the good work!

  8. Wow, the day glo socks are awesome-just up my alley.

It is so great that your son wants you to make socks. I know it can get boring and it can be hard to see when working on dark socks but I'm sure you like his appreciation.

  11. LOL - glad to hear that your socks are mating up! That cracked me up! You have the most fun socks - you must have the happiest feet around! Do your boys know how lucky they are to have Mama's hand knit socks on their feet as they go out to conquer the world?
