Are you as enamored with Halloween novelty fabric as I am? Well if you are I have a giveaway for you. This is 42 different 10 inch squares of Halloween fun. There are all kinds of fabrics here - ghosts, skeletons, pumpkins, bats, cats - just to name a few.
I thought the 10 inch square size would offer the most choices for what you might want to sew. You can cut a 9 inch 60 degree triangle like I did for the Halloween quilt I'm working on, or you could cut it into four 5 inch squares or what ever your little heart desires.
Here are the rules - leave me a comment on this post and tell me about a favorite Halloween costume - one you wore, or one you made for a child, or one you'd like to wear. My favorite costumes are the ones I made for my boys - an dinosaur one where I stuffed the tail with an entire tub of leftover batting I had accumulated over several years, and an Indiana Jones outfit that had me searching all over Modesto, California for a fedora that would fit my oldest son's head. Now you probably think I was looking for a child sized hat, but the kid has always had a huge head. He needed a man's size 7 and 3/4 and he was only 8 years old. He still has a hard time finding hats that fit, as his head along with the rest of him has gotten much larger. What a boy!
Make sure you there is a way to contact you. If you don't have a blog, leave me an email address so I can find you if you win. I am leaving the giveaway open for a week. I will pick the winner at midnight on August 14 and I'll post the name on August 15.
By the way, this is the mess that motivated me to do a giveaway. I figured if I had to refold all this fabric I should cut more than one piece out of each one and I wanted to be sure I could get it all back into one plastic bin - and I did!!!
Happy stitching-
carol fun
OH!!!!! Favorite costume? I had gone to a thrift store and found a dark purple velvet bridesmaid gown. It had a sweetheart neckline and Victorian sleeves (long skinny forearms with buttons to the elbows then extreme puffy shoulders) and a slight train. Then I found a extremely elaborately decorated witches hat in black and purple. I already owned some black lace up boots...My girls were little so I dressed us all up as witches that year. It was awesome! I was the COOL Mom that year. LOL
ReplyDeleteim.a.raven.lunatik@gmail.com if my link doesn't work on my profile.
ReplyDeleteI always wanted to be Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. Now that I am retired I dream of going on Let's Make a Deal and dressing as "retired" Dorothy:) If I should be lucky enough to be chosen you know how to get in touch with me:):):)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite costume was a caterpillar I made for my daughter. It was green and had lots of puffy sections. Her sister was a butterfly with big cardboard wings that ended up being dragged around her ankles. Not my best 'holiday' but I do love the fabric! Thanks for being so generous.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite costume was one I made for myself. I was a T.V. Gosh, I loved that costume. Thanks for having a great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteFun giveaway! As you know, I am not a quilter, so I won't throw my name in the hat ~ however, my favorite costumes are the ones that my sons have made themselves ~ especially the one year that my middle guy went as Captain Underpants!!
ReplyDeleteWow! What fabulous fabric. I would use this for backing needlework smalls.
ReplyDeleteMy Aunt helped me make a costume that was the Headless horseman. We made the body out of this really heavy stock paper. She made me paint the face( I don't think that it looked good). I was probably 8 or 9. :)
One year my husband and I went to a party as bunches of grapes. We had purple balloons attached all over a long shirt. We couldn't drive in these things and had to take two cars. Only one would fit in each car. We took the prize for best costume that year!
ReplyDeletewhat fun! I'd love to win the Halloween fabric!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite costumes I made for myself are
Mary Poppins and Doroth from Wizard of OZ
but my all time favorite was matching Ranggety Ann costumes I made for me and my daughter when she wa in 1st grade :)
thanks for the chance to win
A favorite memory I have is a cute little pumpkin costume my mom made for me stuffed with paper. And that was at least 55 years ago. Still a vivid memory.
ReplyDeleteWe love Halloween so I truly have many favorites, my princess one (store bought) as a child, the Robot one we made for my brother when I was young (card board boxes painted a metallic silver) and also the Raggedy Ann doll I made or my daughter age 3, with a wig made from 2 skeins of red yarn to go with it. Adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memories and the chance. Jane
In the early 70s, I dressed my two boys (ages 6 and 9) as hippies, wearing wigs, beads, sandals. When an elderly lady saw the youngest, she yelled at her husband to come and see the cutest little girl! My son ran home as fast as he could, yanking off the wig as fast as he could! (Now he wishes he had hair- LOL!)
ReplyDeleteThe best costume to come out of our house was the year my daughter was a trash heap! Base was a big black trash bag (holes cut out for head and arms) and then we COVERED it in shredded paper and then added identifiable bits/bobs/boxes/bins of used items. A little smudged charcoal "makeup" and she was good to go. Let's see.....that was back in 1985. I LOVE Halloween and Halloween fabrics. I've been making Trick or Treat bags for my grandkids the year they turn 3...5 down and 2 to go. Thanks for the chance to win these fabrics. mdmontalvo@yahoo.com
ReplyDeletewe used to make our own. thanks
ReplyDeleteOh, boy. What a great giveaway! I guess one of my favorite Halloween accessories was a stole made out of those weasel looking things (stone martins?). The morning after the party I came out to the living room, where the stole was draped over the sofa. Those eyes looking at me scared me so much!
ReplyDeleteMy youngest son (now 19) still has an orange pumpkin costume!!! Sadly it no longer fits him!!
ReplyDeleteCarol
ReplyDeleteThank you for this fabulous giveaway...a win would be perfect for finishing the smalls I've already started stitching...LOVE, LOVE Halloween!
Ah, the trip down memory lane...my favorite costume would have to be the southern belle costume my mom made for me using newspaper!!! It was the 50's and I was about 8 years old. She meticulously fashioned this outfit complete with a big picture hat and an umbrella. I wore it in a local costume parade and took first prize...if I can find that pic, I'll send it to you!
Busy Hands...Happy Heart
Patricia
I love Halloween fabric but don't own many different ones. I once spent Halloween as a bag of groceries. LOL My mom did some sewing and we made a frame for the top of the bag out of coat hangers. We then stuffed all sorts of stuff just inside the top of the bag around my head. I even had an empty 6 pack of beer in there. LOL Great memories.
ReplyDeleteomg i love Halloween fabric! My favourite costume was when i was a kid and my mom made me my fairy princess costume which she topped off with a wand - she made a star shape and attached it to a piece of wood and covered the star in foil - i was thrilled with the shiny fairy wand and i can still see it now and have the same feeling when i think of it as i did when she gave it to me.
ReplyDeletedq bogfairy@yahoo.com (ps i never win these!)
What an awesome idea... I think my favorite costume my daughter had was one that I made ... She went as ace Ventura Pet detective... Tutu... Tropical shirt... Boots... And that whippy hair. It was the scene where he visits the hospital and acts like a dancing football player. She was adorable. Oh please add my name... Halloween is one of my favorites... And I would love to have some cool fabric to help celebrate. Thank you for having this!
ReplyDeleteMy sister and I went to a party as Tweety and Sylvester. We made the costumes from a McCalls pattern. Love the fabrics! Thanks for the opportunity and good luck to all. maryjotruax@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteThe most fun I have had was making costumes for my children...most were creative and put together with things around the house or very little money spent. My favorite was the Nun costume for my daughter... It turned out awesome!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great giveaway :-) I love Halloween fabric :-) How fun! In the past the most fun I had was when my boys were little. I made most of their costumes and my favorites were a M&M and a Bob the Builder. There was a green Lego that was another favorite. We had fun visiting neighbors with the boys in their costumes :-) Now we have lots of fun sitting in our driveway with the neighbors chatting and giving out treats to the little ones.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway. My favorite costume was when I about 8 I loved halloween and I wanted to something special. Mom always told me I was her sweety so she a a young man who worked with her made me a sack of sugar! Great artwork tied up in the corners a little stuffing and that was it. I loved being my Moms sweety and always was till the day she died. Great memories

My favorite costume was the year I made my son man holding his head in front of himself. What a time we had making that! Lol.
ReplyDeleteMy son, from ages 4 through 12, absolutely adored dinosaurs. He lived breathed and even acted as if he was a dinosaur. So on his 9th Halloween, my mother found him the cutest all body dinosaur costume pattern. He was so thrilled. We sewed the pattern up, and the tail was so big and long it just dragged on the ground so we came up with the idea of tacking string from the tail to the middle of his back and wahla! Instant child dinosaur and a memorable Halloween with wonderful pictures. Most of all he loved it, and fell asleep in the costume as he did not want to take it off. To this day I still hear "remember when your son used to act like he was a dinosaur?". Of course I remember, and I have the pics and videos to show his first serious girlfriend as mothers tend to do!
ReplyDeleteI love Halloween fabric!!! my favorite costume was a gypsy costume that I made for my daughter on her first Halloween-40 some years ago.
ReplyDeleteAs a child my favorite costume was that of a gypsie with a full, swirly
ReplyDeleteskirt and lots of bracelets. It was the one time I was allowed to wear
lipstick - such fun!
Love your idea of Halloween fabric for a give away.
Thank you for sharing...
What a great giveaway. I think my favorite costume is one my Mom made me when I was little. It was a clown outfit she sewed. Stevemarty@msn.com
ReplyDeleteI made a Cincinnati Red Legs costume. The bottom part was easy. We made the head out of paper machie that we layered over a big balloon. One of the boys wore it and then I wore it.
ReplyDeleteOh wow what fun fabrics! My favorite costume when I was little was Snow White and I was totally captivated by her. :) My other favorite was the Hobo---I'm still such a Hobo... LOL

Wow! What an amazing giveaway! My favorite Halloween costume was the Zombie nurse I made last year for out Nursing School Halloween party!

That is so easy! My BFF at the time had vintage flapper costumes that were her mom's and her aunt's when they were kids. We were probably I sixth grade when we wore them mine was a dark turquoise with white fringe and hers was orange with black fringe. I was sad to give it back! Halloween is my favorite holiday. Thanks for the contest!
ReplyDeleteNice giveaway and Halloween is a very special day in my family! Myself and both my boys were born on Halloween and one year I sewed their costume: Dracula with a cape and the little guy was a striped clown! They wore these forever....fun day at our house!
ReplyDeleteI made a long red coat for my son to be a character from a manga book. It took me three full days of Fall Break and I wondered if it was worth it. He ended up using that coat for years in various videos for school and fun. It is still a favorite item! I would love to win the Halloween fabric. Thank you for the possibility!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the fun giveaway! My mom made us tons of wonderful halloween costumes as kids; my favorite of recent years is a jellyfish costume I made for myself which included an umbrella strapped to my body with pvc pipe. Very cute but difficult to move through doorways....
ReplyDeleteWhat a great layer cake. One year I was a "4th of July picnic table". Won the prize at work, fun to make, fun to wear. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteGreat Halloween Fabrics! I'm planning a Halloween Quilt and these would fit right in. Best costume - dressing my youngest nephew who was about 2 years old as a baseball player. He even had a miniature wood bat. If I recall they gave him 2 or 3 place in best costume.
ReplyDeleteLove the fabrics, but to be honest, if I win I'm going to give them to a friend who loves Halloween and who's birthday is around that time. Anyway, my favorite Halloween costume was one I came up with for a Halloween party we were invited to back in the 80's. We had to come dressed as a famous pair. Of course, the hubby really wasn't into costumes so I cut some large pieces of foam into bread shaped pieces and pained the edges brown. I dressed in purple sweatpants and top and my hubby in a tan set. We spent the evening "hugging" as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich! The real fun was when we had to go out driving around town on a scavenger hunt!!!! Made for good memories! Thanks for the opportunity Carol!
ReplyDeleteWe always had hand-made costumes.
ReplyDeleteMoney was tight when we were little. We never had store-bought costumes. Mom gave us sheets and felt, beads, etc, to make our own costumes.
My favorite was when I wore and old dress of Mom's. She lent me a necklace and big dangly earrings to match and I wore high heels, and carried a purse.
She also let me wear a little lipstick. :)
I was probably about 8 yers old.
It was a fun time coming up with our own costumes.
We all went to a friend's house for a party, and I won 1st place for my costume!!!!
Great memories.
Thank you for the chance on a great giveaway.

Eons ago, my husband and I square danced. At a Halloween dance way back in the 1950's, Ray and I went as a horse. I made a black body cover with a tail and a hood with a mane of red yarn. Found a mask that looked horsey like to complete our outift. He wore the hood - I was the rear. I would sit on a chair and he sat on my lap and crossed his legs. (We both work black pants. Noone guessed who we were. What a fun memory for me after all these years. Love your fabric, Carol, and love your blog. The Elder Carol
ReplyDeleteI love Halloween and my son loved Power Rangers so much when he was young. I made a Power Ranger costume two years in a row! One was the Green Ranger, with a quilted gold lame capelet thing!! The other was a Ninja Blue Ranger complete with "spat" type things to go on your legs and look like boots! I spend hours on them, but he really loved both, so it was worth all the time!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the generous giveaway, and I'd love to be your winner!
