Just putzing along on a Slow Sunday...

Hello - well another kinda quiet week here... a bit of babysitting, at medical appointment, dinner with friends... the weather has gotten lots warmer and the rain has disappeared... I've had to water every day and it looks like that will be the pattern for another week... oh well... my yard looks great... at least I think so... it is wild and crazy... the way I like it... I had a conversation with my neighbor across the street and he likes all his plantings nice and tidy... I bet I drive him crazy...LOL

Here's a couple of pictures of the yard... okay more than a couple... starting with the front of the house...daisies, dahlias, cleome, petunias...

A bit to the right...coneflowers and short zinnas.

Over to the left... I got that cute orange mushroom at Krogers...

Moving to the side of the house... the zinnas lots taller than I expected... should pay closer attention to the seed packets...

More of the side yard...the cosmos below that window box are almost 5 ft tall... I know because I am 5 ft tall and they keep hitting me in the face...

The bed by the driveway...cannas and marigolds that have engulfed my polka dot chickens... I had to relocate them to out side of the bed as they were drowning in marigolds...

And I have more that I didn't take pictures of... several big pots of petunias and my bed of dahlias is just starting to bloom... right now I am in LOVE with my yard... it has taken me over 6 years to get it to this point... lots of perennials and lots of annuals... a little house surrounded by flowers on 3 sides... and a couple of trees... and there would be flowers on the 4th side but the yard there is so narrow if I planted flowers the kid who mows my lawn wouldn't be able to get his mower through.. and a side note ... this last picture is way more muted than this looks in real life... it was overcast when I took it...

As for crafty stuff... I did get 2 more patriotic pieces FFO'd and finished my other shelf unit display in my living room... I'll put this all away  at the beginning of August...

The whole unit...

Some close ups... Stars and Stripes from Blackbird Designs Schoolgirl Series circa 2003 and a partial stitch of Where Liberty Dwells by With Thy Needle & Thread...

My newest finish, Hurrah from Pineberry Lane... and I got some cute patriotic pins from Just Another Button Company ... I added 2 to this piece and I stuck the Uncle Sam one on that WTN&T piece...

You can see I went with a very simple finish... mounted the stitching on sticky board...then mounted that to a piece of wood (thin - got it at Hobby Lobby)... I painted it and added the stars at the bottom that I also painted... I suppose I could have added another later behind the stitching but I don't enjoy finishing pieces... I like stitching pieces... when Joanns was still doing framing (and as of the other day my Joanns still hadn't resumed framing)... I definitely preferred dropping off stuff and then having them finish it.... now that I do more seasonal stuff that would be expensive, wouldn't it??? So I think I've talked myself into doing more finishing... at least for the seasonal stuff...

And this mini quilt is all Debbie Mumm fabrics... she did great patriotic stuff... I found the flag and the stand when I was looking for something else... I may do some more mini pieces as I like this look ... oh and the stars are Rae Dunn...

Below I have my favorite Longaberger basket... the flag one and assorted knickknacks...

And this piece that I stitched last year but only got FFO'd last week... Yankee Doodle by Lizzie Kate...

And a close up of this one... I painted the frame blue... picked it up at Target... I like how it has a stand built into it...and luckily this piece just fit!!

As for crafty endeavors... I stitched a little more on the WTN&T A Needleworker's Sampler and I felt like knitting... I started 2 different pairs of socks... neither is complete... and it spurred me to buy more yarn (which I do NOT need) ... but I ordered 3 different skeins... hey it makes me HAPPY!!

Doing something today I haven't done in FOREVER... I'm making dinner for my son and his family tonight... he wanted prime rib for Father's Day but we couldn't arrange it ... and he tried to get some carryout prime rib with no success... and I found that scoring the roasts I like at Costco has been difficult too... I finally got 2... smaller than I'd like but waaaay more expensive... not sure there will be a lot of leftovers but it will make a lovely meal... I already prepared pasta salad, marinated tomatoes and a Chinese coleslaw... gonna makes some deviled eggs while the meat is cooking... and we have some nice King's Hawaiian rolls... I love those ... I'm cooking at my house and then taking it to their house...  we still have dinner together every week on Sunday or Monday but I with covid and their crazy life we've been doing more carryout than my cooking... perhaps will get back into that routine... although I do like carry out...

Next week doesn't look too crazy... I like that... a bit of babysitting on Tuesday and Friday... my son has a dentist appointment on Thursday... probably do a lunch out one day ... maybe I'll get some more stitching done... or maybe even turn on my sewing machine!!!   I still have to re-organize my storage room... I keep talking about it but so far the spirit hasn't moved me... but if I quit talking about it, I might not ever do it.... oh procrastination is my middle name...

Hope you have a good week ahead and you get to do whatever it is YOU WANT TO DO!!!  I'll link up with Kathy's Quilts and see what others have accomplished ... and while my prime rib is in the oven I'm going to sit out on my sunroom porch and stitch... and maybe take a nap...

Mid -summer malaise on a Slow Sunday ...

Hello - so how is your summer going?  We have alternated blazing hot days with lots and lots and lots of humid rainy days... ugh... I do appreciate that I haven't had to water my garden for over a week, but there has been so much rain that some of my plants have died from it... soggy soggy soil... I went today and was able to find some more wave petunias to replace those that didn't make it and I may go back and pick up another couple of pots for some other spots. I was happy to find petunias this late in the season... I found 2 garden centers who still have a nice selection of plants ... perhaps a bit of shopping will perk me up and lessen my malaise and laziness.

I had only one appointment last week and thought I'd get a lot done... and I did have several nice outings... burgers with one friend, lunch and shopping with another friend and an Italian food festival down by the Ohio River with other friends... all wonderful times... but by the time I got home I was too tired to do any of the crafty stuff I had planned to do... since I'm giving myself a break from the stocking I wanted to get a bunch of cross stitching done... and I did finish stitching this piece... Hurrah from Pineberry Lane...

it still needs to be FFO'd...my selection of threads ... DMC.. brightened it up a bit... linen is more yellow than shows here.

And I picked up this WIP, A Needleworker's Sampler by With Thy Needle and Thread...

When I started again last week I had half of that house done and some of the motifs at the top... I've got the border roughed in... flowers and leaves to come... and almost all of the alphabet... I can't wait to get to the verse... All my scattering moments are taken up with my needle... LOVE it!!  Now I painted the fabric with Apple green and Tan Rit Dye... so it is slightly grungy...  In real life there is a lot of  green in the linen... I did change the dress on the gal in the middle to my favorite yellow, Crescent Colors Queen Bee and I have plans to replace the 3 dogs in this design with spools of thread which will also be yellow. I'm using the called for threads, overdyed cottons, mostly Weeks and some Valdani... but I'm not sure I really like them... several of the Weeks are so similar in color they could almost be the same thing... Putty, Sage, Olive... you could swap them for each other... so there is little difference when they are stitched ... I wish now that I had subbed DMC... then those shades would be more distinct... and I'm totally over Valdani threads... the 3 this piece called for could easily be DMC colors... the longer I stitch... and I've been stitching for over 35 years the more I LOVE LOVE LOVE DMC!!!  Sorry for the rant...

I'm just in one of those funks at the moment... I still have guilt projects I need to get to, but I want to do what I want to do and those are not the projects that are calling my name... but I know I need to get them done... And I have some Fall and Christmas projects that I want to get started on... the holidays will be here before I know it...

And speaking of holidays... I'll show you some of my patriotic decor for 4th of July... I'm leaving this display up till the end of the month...

Here is the big shelf unit...

My newest finish is Flag Folk from Notforgotten Farm... I LOVE how this turned out...

I like the prim design look but not as keen on the mostly brown and faded colors ... so this is on 32 ct linen painted with Lemon Yellow and Evening Blue Rit Dye... having that light spot in the middle was a fluke... I didn't know that was where it was going to end up... but I think it is perfect placement for this piece!

Up top I have my Summer Welcome by The Drawn Thread and below and to the right of Flag Folk,  I have my Prairie Schooler July... oh I wish I had more of these monthly pieces stitched... that make me happy!!!

Oh a side note, check out this IG post here from  the_offroad._stitcher ... I love how she stitched just the pictorial part of the monthly Prairie Schooler pieces...  I think I'd like to do that for some of the months...

Next I have Libby from Heart in Hand ... I love this finish on the giant grater...

And next to her, two smaller pieces... the lady with the BIG chicken is part of a needlebook design from Chessie & Me and the patriotic bird is Summer Song from Blackbird Designs.

And to wrap this up, who doesn't love a man in uniform?... Liberty by Birds of a Feather and freebie from Notforgotten Farms...

Now I have one more patriotic display to share but I want to FFO that Hurrah piece before I share it... fingers crossed for next week...

And next week does have a bit of running around already scheduled in it... so I don't know how much of anything I will get done... right now I'm going to park my butt out on the sunroom porch, watch the birds at my feeders, read some blogs at Kathy's Quilts. and stitch a bit.

Happy Independence Day!!

 Happy Independence Day!!!

God Bless America, Land That I Love...

Stand Beside Her and Guide Her

Through the Night

With the Light from Above!

Hope that you are having a great day...  I'm going to keep it short and sweet ... the weather is gorgeous and I want to sit on the porch and enjoy it... I always love this quilt...  all Debbie Mumm fabrics... even the back is yardage of a panel print... I did some surgery on it a couple of years ago so it would fit on this wall ... Debbie did great patriotic stuff...

The tier tray is simple... I love that Drawn Thread piece on top ... and the eagle on the bottom is a snippet from a With Thy Needle & Thread chart.... Summer in Baltimore... Brenda does some great patriotic stuff. too...

I like how my Summer sampler from Little House Needleworks looks a bit like a firecracker...

I made some changes to this piece ... turned apples into America and put a bunting next to the B...

I have more patriotic stuff to show you but it will have to wait till next week...my computer isn't cooperating  where pictures are concerned... grrrr...

I'll be stitching out on the sunroom porch today... may have to close the windows and turn on the AC... Friday and Saturday were PERFECT... 70's and low humidity and a breeze... I'm sure tonight will be filled with fireworks...even though it is illegal to set them off in Ohio... that doesn't stop any of my neighbors... and I doubt anything will be said as the governor has signed the bill that will make them legal next year... oh well...

I'll link up with Kathy's Quilts ... always good reading material there for a Slow Sunday...
