Butterscotch Scrap Jar Stars and an Albino Squirrel

So did the title catch your eye? If so, I'll admit it is a teaser. More info at the end of this post on the albino squirrel. So.....Ta dah!! I got the binding on my Butterscotch Scrap Jar Stars! While there was some sun today I dragged it out in the backyard for a couple of pictures.

The quilt measures about 80" square so it should be a nice fit on a double bed.

Cass again did a great job on the quilting - just look at those adorable pumpkins stitched in a Fall-ish variegated thread. I love them!

And here is the arty shot -- I think the colors are truest in this picture. Now I have about 9 blocks left over from this quilt and plenty of fabric to do some more. I think they may reappear next Fall as a lap quilt but for now they will hibernate in a lovely ziploc bag.

Now about the albino squirrel -- okay after doing some research it may not be a true albino but I'm not sure since I couldn't get a good picture of him. And to be truthful this isn't my picture but I didn't think I could talk about it without one.

I was down in the neighborhood where my son's house is today on two different occasions. As I was leaving his house around noon I almost wrecked my car when I saw an albino-or white- squirrel run across the street in front of my car. After recovering I pulled to the curb and got my phone out and tried to get a picture as he was nonchalantly snacking on a neighbor's landscaping. The picture I took is kinda blurry and he scampered off. I returned to the neighborhood about 2 hours later and told my youngest son who was now with me in the car about the squirrel. He looked at me like I had rocks in my head and then the white squirrel reappeared in the exact same yard!! My son also tried to get a picture without success. Now I'm thinking about taking my camera with me tomorrow and staking out a spot and seeing if I can get a picture of my own white whale I mean squirrel. I think I'll call him Moby - LOL!

Wonderful Wednesday

Notice anything different about my Butterscotch Scrap Jar Stars?

Yep, they are done and I have the borders on and I am very very happy with this quilt. But did you notice that there are 9 less blocks than there were on Monday? On Monday my plans were to have 5 rows of 5 blocks. I came home after the guild meeting and sewed my little heart out, getting the last row on and adding the extra rounds to finish off the 9 patches. And I went to bed.....

and when I came downstairs on Tuesday morning I suddenly realized that if I was going to add the generous sized pumpkiny borders that I wanted, this quilt was going to be a behemoth! I plan to use it on a double bed. It would have dragged on the ground. What was I thinking??? So I removed a row from the bottom and a row from the side and re-did the round that finishes the nine patches. Now with the lovely pumpkiny borders it will be the perfect size for my bed. Happy happy happy!

This is one lovely corner....

and a bit of a close up of the lovely pumpkiny border and a chicken, You didn't think I'd forget the chickens did you???

I'm going to drop this off to my long arm quilter, Cass, today and I'm hoping that by the time I get it back there will be cool, crisp Fall weather. I'm probably delusional on that count, but I'm still looking forward to autumn. I love the Fall season!

So now I'm off and running - take quilt to Cass, take younger son to lunch and then to volunteer job, take myself to IKEA to pick up some of the small items older son wants for new house, take myself back to pick up younger son, take younger son and me to meet up with older son for dinner and another trip to IKEA for the bigger items. Run run run as fast as you can, you can't catch me cause I'll be driving really fast - ok I really will be doing the speed limit, don't want any tickets.

Butterscotch Scrap Jar Stars

Since the minute I laid eyes on the Scrap Jar Stars at Trish's blog I have wanted to make a quilt like this for me. I've seen Darlene's version and watched Karin and Staci start theirs and each one is prettier than the next. My dilemma was I didn't know what fabrics to use and then it hit me. It was as plain as the nose on my face, or in this case, the fabric laying on my ironing board- Fall colors would be my choice.

These are the fabrics that were already on my ironing board. The butterscotch is a Moda Grunge Fabric from Basic Grey, and the pumpkin-y print is 3 yds. I picked up at Joanns last week. I love the look of these pumpkins - kinda mod retro.

So I sliced and diced and cut all the fabric I need for HST's and the little squares. I haven't finished cutting the background yet, but I'm getting there.

I started with a couple of charm packs from Deb Strain and Brenda Gervais, and added in left overs from other projects and pieces from my stash. Here are the wonderful piles I've been playing with.

And I've gotten 4 blocks sewn together - yippee! I love the way it looks.

I've been able to incorporate lots of different Fall fabrics - pumpkins, leaves, trees and even chickens.

So you ask what is Fall-ish about chickens? Ummmm..... I'm not exactly sure, but I know they belong in my quilt - LOL!
