This sampler won a contest put on by Just CrossStitch magazine back in 1987. So this design is 25 years old. I think it has held up well. I tore the pattern out of the magazine and aged it for 10 years before I got around to stitching it. You can see I finished mine in 1997.
I love the flower motifs of this sampler - the blue iris...
the pink peony...
and my favorite, the yellow tulip.
This piece is an anomaly in my collection in that there isn't a house in sight on this one. And while I almost always choose wood tone frames, this one had to have a nice brushed gold one.
I walk by this sampler many time during my day and this verse from Corinthians makes me smile... "the greatest of these is love".
Well I got some quality stitching time in last night while I
Have a great week! Happy stitching-

It's a beauty, and well worth holding onto that pattern for 10 years before making it! :0)
ReplyDeleteYou truly are making some heirlooms....looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful sampler!! That's also one of my favorite Bible verses!
ReplyDeleteI love that it has your full name, adboe, and date - it is instantly an heirloom in the making!
ReplyDeleteThat is one gorgeous sampler!
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous! It certainly has stood the test of the time, it's stunning!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful sampler.I am also amazed that you held onto the pattern so long before stitching it. That just shows what a great design this is.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Your stitching is so lovely. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, thanking God daily for air conditioning!
Hugs to Big Dude and you, too. :)
I love this one. I actually have it torn out of that magazine too and fermenting in my stash somewhere. Funny I recognized it after all these years!
ReplyDeleteYou have such a lovely collection of samplers! This one is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful sampler, Carol. Lovely colours too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful sampler Carol! I just love the verse and that it's a little different than normal samplers (sans house).
ReplyDeleteAged your pattern ~ too funny!! I have many that are aging like a fine wine....need more stitching time!
ReplyDeleteLovely sampler and yes, it stands the test of time!
Well... I've been holding onto this pattern since the late 90s (I picked up a batch of Just CrossStitch magazines in a secondhand shop in Australia) and have kept just this one all these years for this very pattern. I think it's about time to start it!
ReplyDeleteI stitched this back in 1987 when the magazine came out. In 2001 we sold our house and everything in it when we retired and traveled in our fifth-wheel. Unbeknownst to me, my husband sold the original in our house sale! I started it again around 2005 but kept putting it away and taking it out and finally finished it (again) last year. It's such a beautiful pattern and I'm keeping a close watch on this one.
ReplyDeleteLooks fabulous! Would you consider sharing the pattern or selling the magazine? I can't find the magazine in Canada.
