Last week I started to play with a new quilt pattern, Hugs and Kisses by Jaybird Quilts. This uses the Lazy Angle ruler (CGR3754) which is my new favorite ruler. Now the pattern uses 2 1/2" strips but I've put my own spin on it using scrap strips of various widths. So far I have about half of the quilt blocks done.
Here is a close of some of the fabrics - lots of brights and novelty - all leftovers from various log cabin and pineapple quilt blocks I've made.
My first thought was to use a small random dotty fabric to fill in the diamond areas but then I was looking at the blocks on the wall and somehow the open areas appeared to be windows, so now I'm thinking of using a cloud/sky fabric and cutting the four triangle pieces as one diamond piece. I'd have to do some partial or inset seams but I think I'd really like the effect. I don't know if I have any sky fabric in my stash that will work but I did see a couple of possibilities online.
Happy stitching-

Love all those fun fabrics!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun, fun quilt!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like it's going to be a great quilt. I like seeing all the different fabrics in it.
ReplyDeleteThat quilt will keep us awake so we can keep sewing!!! very colorful indeed--
ReplyDeletebe sure to read my post for tonight--
you are sooo sweet!!
Hugs, Di
It looks like a Mexican Pinata with all the bright and cheery colors! Some cloud fabric would be a nice contrast, for sure.
ReplyDeleteYour fabrics are great. I keep seeing this lazy angle ruler on blogs tonight so guess I will have to check it out. Beautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteWow!!!!! I love the colors - just the splash I needed to see to make me smile this morning!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful quilt this is going to make. I love the angles of the "blocks." If I would making it I think I would use a light cream tone on tone for the diamonds: I think it would not detract from the bright colors of the strips. I am really looking forward to how this comes out.
ReplyDeleteCatching up on what I missed!~
ReplyDelete"Where the Novelty wears out and only the work remains"--this is too often true!
Lovely giveaways! I adore that jelly roll--sorry I missed my entry chance. :D
lol at your " big" thoughts. :D How on earth ARE you managing to quilt such an enormous thing on a regular machine?
Hooray for finishing! How many inches of binding and sleeve!?
Love that Huts & Kisses pattern! :D
What an amazing sampler sunday your DT gameboard is. :o Love all the little houses but OH! It must have taken forever!
H&K is really coming along. I think a sky would be perfect for this busy, happy color explosion of a quilt. :D
Love it!!! I'm working on the Unwind pattern now. I think the one you are doing is next on my list.
